cultural anthropology

"The scientific study of the development of human cultures based on archaeological, ethnologic, ethnographic, linguistic, social, and psychological data and methods of analysis" (American Heritage Electronic Dictionary). John H. Bodley points out that cultural anthropology "can help us think about [world] problems in new and creative ways because it offers a view of many alternative ways of living. ... Familiarity with only a single national tradition leaves one ill equipped to cope with perplexing issues arising even within multiethnic states" (1).
