John H. Bodley points out that cultural anthropology "can help us think about [world] problems in new and creative ways because it offers a view of many alternative ways of living. ... Familiarity with only a single national tradition leaves one ill equipped to cope with perplexing issues arising even within multiethnic states" (1).
